Natural Cure for Baby Eczema – There Is a Solution!

In babies eczema usually appears first on their scalp and face (if around the mouth, it may well be a sign of food allergy / intolerance). It then spreads to the rest of the body affecting mainly the insides of the wrists, elbows and the backs of the knees (the skin in these areas is more sensitive and moist due to sweating).

The standard treatment for eczema involves an administration of antihistamines (to relieve the itching by suppressing the production of histamine) and an application of corticosteroid creams (to suppress the inflammation in the affected area).

Inflammation however serves an important purpose since it is the body’s primary response to infection, allergens or injury. It provides us with a warning sign that something is irritating the body and it calls for the immune system to deal with it. In eczema, inflammation is the body’s attempt to fight the allergens, pushing them out of the system so that they cannot cause any serious harm inside the body. This natural process acts as a self-preserving mechanism, without which the body would get poisoned.

It can be said that eczema flare ups are the result of overwhelmed elimination channels due to excessive amounts of toxins / allergens circulating in the bloodstream (unfortunately steroid medication greatly contributes to the toxic load thus pushing the disease picture deeper).

Prescribed medication (such as steroid creams and anti-histamines) often treats symptoms associated with inflammation such as redness, swelling and pain. However, it also suppresses the body’s natural defense mechanism thus confusing the immune system. The results are often short-lived which explains why stopping the treatment will result in eczema coming back.

When we use steroid creams we cover up the symptoms of inflammation, so the body is forced to find an alternative outlet. The suppressed inflammation may also sometimes move to other areas of the body (e.g. the bowel wall, which may result in a leaky gut or compromised absorption of nutrients) or it can move deeper and manifest as asthma or hay fever.

If the triggering factors remain unaddressed for a continuous period of time, the immune system will be subject to a lot of pressure. Eventually, it will get thrown out of balance at which point the eczema becomes chronic. In order to find a permanent freedom from eczema, we will need to delve deeper to get to the root cause of the condition.

What we will discover is that most cases share a common factor OVERACTIVE IMMUNE SYSTEM. Our immunity is a very sophisticated system that would do anything in order to defend the body against foreign invaders (incl. allergens). If the immune system is under chronic pressure, its function becomes impaired.

Your baby may well be genetically predisposed (since atopic conditions often run in families), but more often a weak immune system is the result of the following:

continuous exposure to allergens (which may lead to a leaky gut resulting in excessive amounts of toxins circulating in the blood)
inadequate nutrition
lack of sleep
environmental pollution / exposure to cigarette smoke
excessive use of antibiotics

When we manage to eliminate allergens, the body gains enough energy to initiate the healing process. The healing will occur on a priority basis starting with the more important organs (e.g. the intestines, the liver) moving onto the less important ones (such as the skin, nails, hair). That explains why the natural way of healing seems to take longer to notice any improvements since it literally heals the body inside out (as opposed to superficial skin healing).

This is only a small excerpt from my book Heal Your Baby’s Eczema which is based on thenotion that every baby is unique thus the cure will be different in each case. It also addresses factors that trigger eczema whilst showing parents what practical steps to take in order to eliminate their baby’s eczema for good. It is an in-depth guide for all parents who are willing to take matters into their hands and help their baby recover the natural way!

Baby Eczema ? Can Organic Baby Clothes Help?

Being a parent is hard enough at the best of times without the added problem of dealing with an uncomfortable and irritated baby. My daughter suffered from eczema and it made her quite miserable and it’s very frustrating when your little one is upset and you can’t make it go away as your natural instinct is to protect your baby. So what is baby eczema and how can you protect your baby from it?

So what is Eczema?

Eczema is a skin condition where the skin can become irritated, cracked or inflamed. Babies are all made different and some have more oil in their skin than others. If they lack these oils in their skin, their skin struggles to hold moister and it becomes irritated and sore, sometimes leading to cracking of the skin. The gap created in the skin due to the dryness allows bacteria and irritants to pass into the skin causing sometimes quite severe irritation and infection. This can be aggravated by soaps and detergents that also remove the natural oils from your baby’s skin. A skin layer plumped up with natural oils and fats is better able to deal with irritants and allergens.

So what causes Eczema?

There are many different types of eczema but the most common is Atopic eczema which is thought to be genetic and triggered by environmental conditions. Some of the things that can trigger this Atopic eczema include soaps, detergents, animal fur, pollen, rough clothing, dust mites and being too warm for prolonged periods.

Baby eczema can be a real problem, with 5% 15% of children being affected before their seventh birthday. Baby eczema begins in the first year for 60% of babies affected by this irritant. The itchiness is the biggest problem for baby’s as they obviously will just scratch and watching your child suffer this way is the worst thing about baby eczema for most parents.

How to treat Eczema

There isn’t any cure for eczema but there are things you can do stop it happening or to deal with it when your baby is suffering with baby eczema. You can get creams and lotions from the Doctors. But these only reduce the inflammation and return moisture to the skin. The only real way to combat eczema is to eliminate the cause or the things that encourage or irritate your baby’s skin.

Can organic baby clothes help?

Baby eczema is sometimes caused by the chemical residue in their clothing. It can be the pesticides used on the cotton or the dyes used or a combination of the two. Organic cotton doesn’t have any chemical residue as the clothes haven’t been sprayed or dyed using chemicals of any kind. Natural predators are introduced to keep pests from eating the cotton and natural dyes such as fruit berries are used to colour the cotton.

There are many types of cotton and it can grow in many different subtle and natural colours. There is also Bamboo clothing which is supersoft and known to help eliminate baby eczema. Of course organic baby clothes are going to cost slightly more as the growing and preparation process is more time consuming but it does produce the best natural and allergy free clothing. It’s worth the extra to reduce the risk of baby eczema occurring with your child. Plus they really are supersoft. We changed to organic baby clothes and our little girl’s eczema went from all over her body to a little patch on her left arm which has gone completely now. Try organic baby clothes if your baby is suffering from baby eczema, it could just be the answer.

Baby Eczema – Everything You Need to Know

by JMDN

Eczema can be one tough cookie to beat. It’s a skin disease that affects thousands of children across America. In fact, nine out of ten children are diagnosed with the skin disease before they hit the age of 5, and two-thirds of children get eczema before they even reach 6 weeks of age! Those results obviously show that eczema is more widespread than most think.

Many parents may not even realize that their child has eczema, as the symptoms may first appear to be atypical to regular, dry skin. The problem is, the symptoms eventually worsen, producing dry, red patches across different parts of their bodies. With the eczema comes the uncontrollable itching that is associated with the disease. It is also often painful, as the skin may crack open and bleed occasionally.

If you think you’re child has eczema, you may want to seek the advice of a medical professional to get it properly diagnosed. If you’re child already has eczema, you most likely know about the prescription creams and medicines that are used to treat the symptoms of eczema. The problem with these creams is that they only provide temporary relief of the symptoms of eczema, but do not actually cure it completely.

Since the eczema does not become fully cured with skin treatments, it will go away temporarily, only to eventually continue to flare up throughout their childhood. Also, prescription creams can even worsen the symptoms of eczema in some people. This is why I was dedicated to find an alternative way to treat and cure eczema.

See, my daughter suffered from eczema badly. And while we wasted money on all sorts of medicines, creams and treatments, I finally found a cure for her eczema. The best part? It was all natural. You can learn more about how to cure baby eczema at Cure Eczema.

Read more and my story about how I finally won the battle against my eczema at Treat Eczema.

Eczema Treatment for Your Little One — Prevent the Effects of Baby Eczema

If you are not sure whether you have eczema or not, you should do a little research first. I recommend reviewing what is available on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eczema

Eczema is difficult for children to deal with, still the good news is that many children grow out of eczema. Statistics demonstrate by their teens almost 75 percent of children grow out of their eczema. What follows is a few tips to help you with your child’s eczema. I hope you find it useful.

Ask Your pediatrician for advice. Maybe obvious but should be number one, very important!
Develop a bedtime routine — If you’re the parent of a child with eczema you know that children can often have problems sleeping because their skin can get hotter and itchier at night. Keep your child’s bedroom cool and use cotton sheets.
Some kids have a tendency to scratch in their sleep, this kind of uncontrolled scratching can be really damaging to the skin and even leave scars on the body and face — keep childrens nails short and filed.

Apply moisturizer 25 minutes before bedtime to allow the skin to absorb and metabolize it. Keep pets out of the room and attempt to keep allergens to a minimum where your child sleeps. Allergens, dust, and mold can cause severe eczema flares.

Wash the baby with a good soap (this goes for your self too) — the wrong soap can cause skin to DRY OUT, and this leads to eczema flares. Johnson’s tear free products are good, also Dove soaps w/cream and cetaphil (google cetaphil soap) are good for preventing eczema flares from soap. Bath your baby once or twice a week, and clean your baby’s face, hands and bottom daily.
Keep your baby’s skin moisturized. A good tip — try mixing organic cold pressed coconut oil in with the lotion you’ve chosen for your child. The coconut oil is high in vitamin E which is like skin food, it helps the skin repair itself through the body’s natural process.
Monitor your baby’s diet — Eczema usually starts at around 6 months, and does not normally result from the introduction of new foods. However, sugar is known to cause inflammation and eczema flares, it is important to monitor the amount of sugar (especially processed/refined sugar) in your baby’s diet.
Your baby is still developing and it’s body is identifying what foods and allergens that are not harmful, however, it is possible that your child is allergic to some foods, if you consistently notice an eczema flare up after your child eats a certain food try to isolate precisely what that food is and consult your pediatrician. Eczema can be triggered by foods in about 10 percent of children.

My child got eczema from me, as it does not run on my husband’s side of the family. I was a bit distraught when I found that my baby had eczema, but I was glad that I had experience with it, and I knew I would be able to help more effectively. I was tired of dealing with my eczema and trying to find a permanent treatment to help my self, and all of a sudden I found out that my baby had eczema too. Eventually I found a treatment that I decided to use for my self. One night during a flare-up I was browsing online, and I decided to throw dollars at this problem. I was surprised at how useful what I learned from this book had been. If your interested in the treatments that helped me manage my eczema and the stuff the I applied to my baby’s eczema you can find what I used to alleviate my Atopic Dermatitis and prevent flare-ups here: What I used to manage my Atopic Dermatitis and prevent flare-ups.
