Treatments of Eczema – How Efas Can Create Smooth Eczema Skin

Treatments of Eczema There are good fats and bad fats. Good fats contain essential fatty acids and are extremely important for your skin if you suffer with eczema.

These essential fatty acids contain omega 3 and omega 6.

Your body does not create these essential fatty acids so it is vital that you eat foods that contain them in good quantities.

Some of the very best foods which contain essential fatty acids are avocados, flax oil, sprouted seeds and virgin olive oil.

Here are a few benefits of including Essential Fatty Acids in your Diet:

#1 – Treatments of Eczema EFAs are very chemically active because by their nature they absorb sunlight which increases their oxygen content.

#2 – Treatments of Eczema EFAs are very effective at preventing foreign organisms such as viruses and bacteria entering the body. Great for eczema sufferers.

#3 – Treatments of Eczema Viruses and bacteria cannot thrive in the presence of oxygen. EFAs hold oxygen within their cell membranes.

#4 – Treatments of Eczema EFAs continuously detoxify the system, a must for eczematous skin. They carry foreign substances and toxins to all the excretion organs such as skin, kidneys and lungs.

#5 – EFA work wonders against fungus and yeast infections. They also inhibit tumour growth.

There are many treatments of eczema available today. But few of them focus on the importance of diet and the foods that you eat. There are good and bad fats. But the good fats will work wonders on your eczema and skin.

Including EFAs in your diet will create smooth, radiant skin. It will greatly improve your detoxifying ability and keep your itchy skin calm.

Include them in your diet today.

Treatments of Eczema – How Heat is Bad for Eczema

August 22nd, 2010

patient30before

Treatments of Eczema There are many treatments and cures available at the market to cure your eczema but not many practitioners look at the causes of eczema.

Heating your food above 118F is detrimental to eczema. The sort of heat I am talking about is that heat which is associated with cooking, steaming, baking, saut, frying, roasting, stewing, boiling, grilling and or pasteurizing of foods.

Im afraid cooking your foods does not improve its quality. Here is what cooking your food does:

#1 – Treatments of Eczema Cooking your foods totally destroys the enzymes content of your food. The enzyme content in cooked food is zero. Enzymes are paramount for radiant health and skin.

#2 – Treatments of Eczema Cooking your foods destroys the protein content of your food. The heat of cooking will either destroy the protein content of your food or transform it into a protein form that is difficult to digest. Foods that are not easily digested create toxins within the system.

#3 – Treatments of Eczema Cooking your foods minimises and/or destroy the vitamin content of your food. Granted not all vitamins are destroyed by heat but as much as 50% of vitamin B is lost through cooking for example. 80% of vitamin C is lost if a food is cooked for a prolonged period of time. The average overall nutrient destruction of food is 85%! What that means is that often we only get approximately 15% of the total nutrient value of our food when it is cooked. With eczema we need to consume as much healthy nutrients as is possible.

#4 – Treatments of Eczema If you drink your beverages too hot you are likely to create internal upsets especially in the stomach.

#5 – Treatments of Eczema Overeating cooked foods can in some cases compromise your immune system. This is because by overeating on cooked foods your blood is in a constant state of crisis.

Are Alternative Eczema Treatments Really Effective?

Are Alternative Eczema Treatments Really Effective?

Anyone suffering from eczema will attest that not only the skin disease is a painful one, but it also very depressing. On cannot help but think about how other people react upon seeing those unsightly red, swollen and scaly patches on the skin. Because of this, those afflicted by the disease will try any available eczema treatment to help lessen the symptoms at all costs.

There is really no cure for eczema; however, there are many treatments available that help lessen the symptoms. Doctors often prescribe topical and oral treatments that will help in alleviating inflammation and itchiness, but these do not come without side effects. Some of them potentially include nausea, vomiting, hypertension, glaucoma, growth retardation and many others. With all these side effects in mind, someone with eczema cannot help but look at some of the alternative ways of treating eczema.

Herbal Medicines

There are hundreds of herbal medicines out there that claim to have beneficial effects to the symptoms of eczema. Basically, what they do is try to control the hyperactivity of a persons immune system, control inflammation and relieve itchiness. There are a variety of preparations and mode of applications for such herbal medicines. Some of them may be in the form of oils, lotions, soaps, infusions, teas and even pills.

Herbal treatments for eczema may include and may be derived from the following popular plants and plant parts:

- Aloe Vera gel
- Babul tree bark
- Burdock root
- Butea seeds
- Chamomile
- Linseed oil
- Madhuca leaves
- Oat straw
- Rosemary
- Walnut leaves
- Witch Hazel

Just bear in mind that herbal medicines are still medicines. Although they may not be potentially hazardous to your health, they may still cause side effects, no matter how minor they may be. Also, before trying out any herbal treatment, it is best to consult your doctor first. This is particularly important if you are currently on certain medications, as these natural remedies for eczema may interfere with the drugs.

Aromatherapy and Massage

Aromatherapy treatment for eczema may include massaging of the affected skin with essential oils that give off strong smell, this being derived from aromatic plants. Studies conducted among children have shown that massaging the eczematous skin with ordinary oil yielded the same positive results obtained using essential oils. In both cases, the children achieved relief from the symptoms, as well as improved their sleep.

It has been found out that stress plays a major role in the flaring up of eczema. That is why many doctors recommend anyone afflicted with the skin disease to relax, get rid of stress and have a positive outlook in life. This is where aromatherapy works: the scent of the essential oils used helps the person achieve relaxation better; hence, diminished flare ups.

Biofeedback

Although stress does not directly cause eczema, it does have an effect on flare ups, as discussed earlier. Some experts might use a device attached to the body of the person suffering from eczema which evaluates different body signals. These signals include muscular tonicity, heart and respiratory rates. The information the device gives is called biofeedback an eczema treatment which is helpful to many.

The goal of this method is to let you sense the changes going on in your body when you are stressed, and learn how to control them right away. With less stress, less flare ups are likely to occur.

Eczematous dermatitis or as it is more commonly referred to by laypeople, eczema is a disorder of the skin or derma. It manifests itself as round coin-sized patches of dryness on the skin. It can be the result of allergies, both medical and natural. The real cause is unknown for the most part. Eczemas symptoms are led by dry skin. It is a common occurrence in the winter when the air is dry and cold. The eczema outbreak can be worsened by chemicals such as harsh soaps or strong detergents. Bathing too frequently (more than once a day) can also worsen the outbreak. The condition can be worsened even by the mildest soaps. Any eczema treatment used cannot promise instant cures. They take time to work and are designed to provide prolonged relief.

Eczemas intensity can be affected by things such as intense climate or medical allergies, but neither of these is the cause for the disorder. The level and intensity of the disease determines the eczema treatment best for the situation. The simplest and most common method of eczema treatment is prescription high-powered ointment applied to the affected area. Faster and more effective healing can be had with many types of prescriptions under medical supervision.

Do you suffer from stinging skin eruptions, severe itching, swelling and redness of the skin? These are all common symptoms of various types of eczema. Perhaps you should consider wrap therapy. This soothing therapy involves taking a bath with emollient oil and then wrapping affected areas with wet bandages soaked in warm water or specific moisturizers. The wet bandages can be used even on the face. The wet bandages are covered with dry bandages to retain the moisture in the wrap. A daily routine of applying emollients or moisturizers will enhance the effectiveness of the wraps. This procedure although quite effective doesnt alleviate the need to take other prescribed medicine. The wraps can be quite time consuming however it is one of the most effective non-prescription eczema treatments. They will help to restore the skins texture and elasticity.

Eczema treatments are not limited to medicines and chemicals. There are natural cures and these cures can make the skin smooth and healthy. Emollients are the best natural moisturizer for people who suffer from eczema. Regular moisturizers and creams available in the marketplace are not as oily as emollient moisturizers. Emollient oils can be added to your bath water or applied directly to the body before taking a shower. In the summer season when it is hot and sticky, you can put the emollients in the fridge so when you do apply them, they cool and soothe the skin.

Another example of eczema treatments are two types of phototherapy treatments. The two types of phototherapy are psoralen (also called psoralene) plus UVA exposure and UV light therapy. The affected areas of the skin are drenched with ultraviolet A or ultraviolet B rays or both at the same time. This method is an effective alternative to medicines and chemicals. Utmost care must be taken using these treatment methods and should only be done under the guidance of a doctor. This treatment is usually prescribed for three to five times a week.

While these treatments are an effective cure against eczema and will bring the condition under control, you may also need to make some lifestyle changes to make them more effective

Varicose Eczema: Causes, Symptoms, Treatments

June 24th, 2010

ipod

Varicose eczema is also otherwise known as gravitational or stasis eczema. It is said to be caused by poor blood circulation in your legs. Hence, it is not directly caused by food allergies or any allergens although these may worsen an eczema flareup that is already ongoing. Problems often arise when you do not seek treatment for this condition. Nasty ulcers may start to develop and they are difficult to heal and treat.

The presence of varicose veins often precedes varicose eczema. The veins form when blood does not flow properly to deeper veins from the surface veins. This results in a pressure build up on the surface veins, causing the pooling of blood. However, only some sufferers with varicose veins go on to develop varicose eczema, while others do not. Unfortunately, not much is known why this is the case.

Varicose eczema skin is unsightly, fragile and unhealthy. It is easily broken and can leave you with a nasty sore, known as a varicose ulcer. Without treatment, it is possible that the small sore can grow even bigger and deeper. When this happens, it becomes harder to treat. It is also probable that your ulcer can attract bacteria which will make the eczema even worse than it already is.

This condition usually affects those who are in their middle ages or elderly. However, there is also a chance of developing varicose eczema even if you are younger and in your late teens. You get this condition due to having varicose veins, phlebitis or deep vein thrombosis in the past. It has been found that women are at higher risk of developing varicose eczema due to their hormones, especially in pregnancy.

It is important that you keep your eczema skin moist with an emollient. However, you should select any over the counter emollients carefully. Check the ingredients to find out if you are allergic to any of them before use. It may also be that a cheaper emollient can work better than an expensive one.

Using an emollient two times a day helps. There are even some that you can use in the bathtub that will help to lock in the moisture that chlorinated water usually removes from your body. This is especially true if you use hot water. You should also avoid using bubble bath and soap until your condition has cleared up.

For control of your itchy varicose eczema skin, you may need a prescription from your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe you a short course of topical steroid cream. At the same time, you can also explore your options with some natural treatments to find out if they can work for you. Do discuss a suitable treatment plan with your doctor on the best way forward.

Eczema Symptoms And Treatments:

Eczema (Also known as Dermatitis) has 2 major types. One is Atopic Dermatitis and the second one is Contact Dermatitis.

Atopic Eczema is thought to be a hereditary condition. It is proposed people with atopic dermatitis are sensitive to allergens in the enviroment, which are harmless to other people. This type of eczema is especially common in infants and children.

The key to lessening this type of eczema is to strengthen your immune system. When it is hereditary there isn’t much you can do to avoid it, all you can do is try to keep it under control.

Contact Eczema – This occurs when chemical substances come in contact with the skin. By

learning which substances cause the irritation, this type of eczema can be

controlled.

Common causes For Eczema

Internal Factors:

Hereditary – A family history of eczema, asthma or hayfever. If both parents have

eczema there is an 80% chance their children will have it as well.

Food – Some of the most common foods that aggravate the eczema are dairy, wheat products,

acedic fruit, eggs, nuts seafood, preservatives and coloring.

Stress – Emotional stress is a well known trigger of eczema flare-ups. Reducing stress

can significantly help the problem.

External Factors:

Irritants – Tobacco smoke, bleach weather, scratchy clothes (like wool) and air

conditioning or over heating can irritate the skin.

Allergens – These include dust mites, feathers, mold, grasses, pets, soaps, shampoo as

well as certain cosmetics. Ingredients such as alcohol and fragrances may

trigger or worsen eczema.

Atopic Eczema is the most common, it affects 10-20% of school age children and 3-5% of adults.

Symptoms:

The severity of this disease can vary. In mild cases the skin is dry, hot and itchy. In more severe cases, the skin can become broken, raw and bleeding. It can affect any part of the body.

Eczema symptoms start with severe itching, soon after that a rash appears and it starts out as flaky dry skin on top of reddened, inflammed skin. The rash is usually burning and itchy. Some people develop red bumps, while others develop bumps filled with clear fluid. Scratching them will make it worse. The skin can harden and crack, causing it to be very painful.

AmLactin XL Lotion, 5.6 Ounces Reviews

Review by Lydia Jillian: 5 Eczema Treatment

31aEDos8c7L. SL75 Eczema TreatmentThis is miracle cream. It has healed the cracked hands and feet of three family members. I have searched for anything to help my severely cracked heels and extremely dry hands since I was a child. This did wonders within two days of using it. My husband had the same results on his knuckles. They had cracked open from dry weather. There was a huge improvement after only three aplications.

Do not be scared off by the price. If you have seriously dry skin, it is worth every penny. Only a small amount of cream is needed for each application. This tube is going to last a long time.

The other AmLactin products are very good too. But, I have never had results like this from any product before.

Review by JKZV: 4 Eczema Treatment

31aEDos8c7L. SL75 Eczema TreatmentFirst, this is a thick, moisturizing cream and I’m sure it will helps a lot of people who have not tried the Amlactin line, or who first tried the Amlactin Lotion.

I became a believer in the Amlactin product line when I tried the Amlactin 12% Body Cream in the 4.9oz tube to treat my 20-year old case of kp (keratosis pilaris – rough, raised bumps on outer arms and thighs). After only 3 days of twice-daily application, my kp was 90% improved. After 2 weeks, it was completely *gone*. In addition, my seriously cracked heels and fingers were completely healed, too.

I thought that if the regular Amlactin was this good, the XL had to be even better, right? It wasn’t for me, at least. I had gotten to a once-a-day maintenance routine with the regular cream but when I switched to the XL, I had to go back to twice-a-day application and my heels started showing signs of cracking again. Now I’m finishing off the XL tube as a hand cream only and I switched back to the regular Amlactin cream for my arms and feet. Again, I was able to go back to a once-a-day regimen.

I couldn’t find the percentage of ammonium lactate (the main ingredient) on the XL tube, but the regular cream tube is clearly marked with the 12% potency. It makes me wonder if the ammonium lactate percentage is smaller on the XL because it is combined with other active ingredients – and perhaps my skin doesn’t need those other ingredients as much as it needs the ammonum lactate.

I agree that the XL might work better than the Amlactin *lotion* (in the bottle) since the lotion seems to evaporate more quickly due to its thinner consistency. I do use the regular lotion on my face and any large, less-dry areas that I want to moisturize and it works great that way. It’s not too oily for my combination facial skin and more economical to use on large areas since it spreads more easily and comes in a larger bottle.

For me, the Amlactin Moistuizing Body Cream in the 4.9oz tube is the most effective on my kp and cracked heels/fingertips and the Amlactin XL was just not as good. Oh, and these lotions do smell of ammonia, which is why some reviews say they smell like urine. I find that the smell is not as strong and fades quickly if my skin is dry, rather than wet, when I apply it. If you put on lotion after bathing/showering, you might want to towel off well and wait a few minutes before applying it to minimize the ammonia smell. I hope this helps anyone who is having a problem with the scent.

I’ve tried Retin-A, Lac-Hydrin 5, and a slew of other useless products over the years without near the results I get from the Amlactin line, and at a much smaller price tag. Thank you Amlactin!! Now can you get the retailers to move it out from behind the pharmacy counter, please?

Review by Professorlee: 5 Eczema Treatment

41yCbTOzLUL. SL75 Eczema TreatmentI have had eczema my entire life – my hands would get so red and dry in the winter that they would bleed! – and I found nothing over the counter that would work. Sure the prescriptions helped – but they would give me a tiny tube that cost too much and lasted a week. Dermarest lotion (emphasis on “lotion” – I found the cream version they offer does not work as well) is absolutely wonderful. I have told many family and friends about this product and everyone loves it. It even works on the children in the family (as our exzema is hereditary). Bottom line – it works, it’s inexpensive and the size of the bottle will last you all winter!

I have been using the repcillin for a few months for my childrens eczema and any rashes they might get. It has worked very well for my children. I thought I would also throw my little comment towards what it did for my burn.

Being a chef, I have seen my fair share of burns in the kitchen, after always using repcillin on my children I used the repcillin on a burn that I had got from boiling water. It was amazing, the burn ended up not leaving a scar (and i scar easily). So I thought I would tell the other moms out there not only to use the Repcillin for your babies, use it yourself,

It was great to find out that there is something out there that is 100% natural with no side effects. I have had problems with my sons eczema, whenever the doctor gives my son a cream, it always helps and then the eczema returns worse than before.

I ordered the repcillin after reading about it on [...], the product came in about 3 days. It has been amazing, as soon as I applied the cream to my sons eczema, I noticed the redness going away, it helped heal his skin and now I use the spray every day after his bath to keep the eczema at bay.

41ntrOdvDlL. SL75 Eczema TreatmentThis is my second order for this amazing stuff! I use it on my lips, nails and cuticles, hands, dry areas on my face, elbows, feet, and sometimes as a hair product. Do Not Hesitate To Purchase! When I got my first container, I thought it would be greasy because it looks more like an ointment than a cream. But, it matches the natural lipids in the skin so well, it literally soaks right in and leaves such smooth, soft, and healed skin behind. No scent so can be used by both men and women.

41ntrOdvDlL. SL75 Eczema TreatmentI have been using Egyptian magic for the last 4-5? years as my night cream. I am 42 years old and have virtually no wrinkles. I always moisten my face first with a spritz of witch hazel mixed with rose water (I mix together in a mister)then emulsify the egyptian magic in the palm of my hand. It spreads easier all over face and neck. I also like to put it in my hair (small amount) after washing while still wet, then it combs out easily and makes my curls softer and shinier. It works great on dry hair (tiny amount rubbed in palms of hands) as defrizzer and shine booster. I also enjoy it as a hand/cuticle cream and lip balm. you can also use it as a female moisturizer or lubricant. I love that it has no artificial ingredients or preservatives. Remember, honey is naturally antibacterial. I am sold for life! It is expensive at whole foods, but I sometimes see a deal on amazon. just check the shipping charge first…sometimes you may notice a much smaller price only to realize the shipping charge makes it as much as the other “expensive” looking prices. I love this stuff and the jar does last quite a long time. Oh, by the way, I did try to make this at home once and it turned into a blob of sticky mess. I must have put too much bees wax when melting it down. The chemistry must be exact to get the consistancy of the original product.

TriDerma Eczema Fast Healing Cream Reviews

Review by B. Dawson: 5 Eczema Treatment

41ShgHCeZ5L. SL75 Eczema Treatment**I’m posting this review on my husband’s account, not my own (I actually don’t have one)

I never leave reviews, but this product is working so well that I wanted to let others know how it has helped my son.

He is now a little over 4.5 months old and has had eczema spreading across his forehead and down to his cheeks since he was two months. The pediatrician originally gave us an anti-fungal cream to manage the rash, but there was no effect. At his 4 month well-check, we received a Rx for Alclometasone Dipropianate Cream, USP 0.05%. It worked amazingly well, and his skin was soft and smooth in 4 days. But, the label says that it’s not recommended for children under 1 and the pediatrician was very clear that we not exceed 7 days of use and that we cease use earlier once his skin cleared. His skin remained clear for about a day and a half, but then a small patch of rash appeared on his forehead.

We began using Cetaphil lotioin to moisturize throughout the day and California Baby Calendula Cream, in an attempt to control the inflammation without the use of steroids (several reviews and message board posts mentioned its effectiveness). The combination seemed to slow the spread of the rash, initially, but his face and cheeks were soon covered again (worse than before we used the Rx cream).

We discontinued use of the Calendula cream, thinking it might be too strong and causing irritation. We continued with the Cetaphil, which seemed to provide temporary moisture and relief from the itching, but did nothing to control the rash and required numerous applications throughout the day.

A co-worker informed me that she has been using TriDerma to control her son’s eczema since he was an infant (he’s now 2), and suggested that I give it a try. We have been using TriDerma for 4 days, now. There was little noticeable difference in the first 2 days, but we’ve seen great improvement since then. It doesn’t appear to be working as quickly at the Rx cream, but it is definitely working and appears to be following the same stages of healing as with the Rx cream.

I am so thankful! The rash was beginning to spread to his nose and eyelids, but is now receding, and we are hopeful that his skin will soon clear completely.

Review by Mrs. Alba: 4 Eczema Treatment

41ShgHCeZ5L. SL75 Eczema TreatmentI bought this for my 2 year old daughter who has patches of eczema all over her body. This past winter was especially dry and her skin worsened. She had an especially stubborn patch of eczema in the bend of her elbow that would not heal. We had a daily regime of triple antibiotics and cortisone. We only bathed her a couple times a week and used cetaphil soap to wash her along with aveeno oatmeal in her bathing water-which after we applied aquaphor all over her. Desperate- as the patch in her elbow was getting worse – I saw an ad for this and decided to try it. After 5 days of applying 2 times daily it healed up the patch completely. No weeping or scaling anymore! My only complaint is that it doesn’t come in a bigger tube. But well worth the price as the results were excellent.

Review by T. Lee-Vogt: 5 Eczema Treatment

416Y61m7SLL. SL75 Eczema TreatmentOkay, maybe this lotion is not a miracle worker in the biblical sense. But, we have had amazing results with this product. My daughter has terrible eczema on her arms. We have tried different types of remedies from oatmeal baths to prescription ointments. I saw a coupon for this in the paper and decided to give it a shot. And, it has been great! It really cleared up the eczema and my daughter’s discomfort. And, her skin feels much, much softer. And, it has a nice scent. We saw results in less than three days. My daughter is actually weaing short sleeve shirts again!

Treat Your Eczema Naturally With These 3 Tips

April 26th, 2010

skinmdnatural

Eczema outbreaks can be from unpleasant to painful. Eczema sufferers are constantly looking for treatment options and relief for this condition. Some the most effective ways to provide relief for the red, dry and itchy spots are natural treatments. Here are three of these that you can try to treat your eczema.

Soothing Oatmeal Baths

Oatmeal baths are a wonderful way to treat mild to severe eczema. Ground oatmeal is added to warm (not hot) bath water. The oatmeal soothes itchy skin so you can stop scratching and give your skin a chance to heal. You can purchase oatmeal baths at any drugstore or natural food store in your area. Of course you can also purchase plain oatmeal and grind it in a coffee grinder to make your own oatmeal bath. Make sure the water isnt too hot to prevent your skin from drying out and pat yourself dry with a soft towel after your oatmeal bath.

Natural Healing Lotions

Healing any irritated and scratched open areas of your skin is an important part of any successful eczema treatment. Natural healing lotions can help you do just that. Natural lotions that include either zinc or vitamin e have been shown to shorten healing time. Apply the topical creams or lotions several times a day. Another option is to take both zinc and vitamin e as a supplement.

Moisturize Your Skin To Prevent Eczema Outbreaks

While there isnt a cure for eczema (yet), there are things we can do to prevent future outbreaks. The most important part is to keep your skin well hydrated. Use a gentle moisturizing lotion daily. Avoid hot showers and baths and pat yourself dry with a soft towel. Avoid wearing rough clothing that will agitated your skin. You should also make sure you drink plenty of water to hydrate yourself from the inside. All of this is particularly important during the winter months when keeping our skin well hydrated becomes especially difficult because of dry, heated air.

These three natural eczema treatments work especially well for milder forms of this skin condition. Please consult your dermatologist before starting any type of eczema treatment. If your eczema is moderate to severe, you may need prescription medication in addition to the treatment options mentioned above.

Synopsis Of Eczema Terms, Causes And Treatments

April 14th, 2010

Luxurious Moisturizing Body Oil

ECZEMA IS A COMMON MALADY

Eczema, a general term describing conditions affecting the skin, has many specific descriptions depending on appearance and location, frequency of occurance, and cause of occurance. Often, certain conditions will have two or more descriptions depending on what the Doctor thinks the cause is. For example: Xerotic, Asteatosis and Atopic refer to dry skin that usually affects older people making the skin drier and if not treated causes the skin to crack. Nummular Dermatitis or Discoid Eczema found on the arms or legs and consists of patches of reddish discolored skin. Other names are Contact Dermatitis or Allergic Contact Dermatitis occurring when the skin is exposed to allergens usually found in products people use like medications and deodorants and sometimes your own sweat. It usually shows up on the arms and hands. Venous or Stasis Dermatitis affects the lower limbs and the itching causes dark reddish skin. It is usually found on the lower extremities legs and feet and frequently appears on people with reduced blood circulation. Lichen Simplex Chronicus or Neurodermatitis usually found on the groin, neck and ankles and is usually caused by severe rubbing. Jock itch is probably a form. Seborrhea or Seborrheic Dermatitis appears as scaling or pimpelling around the eyes or on the scalp. In babies it appears as a yellowish rash on the scalp and is curable.

Other specific descriptions exist, but all are a form of Eczema.

Some forms are curable. Others are not. Some are inherited and occur periodically. These cases can usually be controlled. None are considered contagious.

Causes of Eczema can be allergens and irritants found in food, soaps, cleansers, solvents, cosmetics, plants, weeds, animals fibers, chemicals, toxins in the air, over washing, diuretic medications, nutrition deficiencies, radiation, malignancies, neurological disorders, wind, humidity, decreased sweating, dry air, under active thyroid, metals, and inherited factors. Some forms can be caused by and co-exist with other maladies. You name it, it seems, and one could acquire Eczema from it.

Treatments for Eczema are many and may often consist of reduced bathing, using moisturizers, ointments, emollients, humectants, topical steroids, retinoid, ultra violet light, phototherapy, even coal tar (one of the early means of treatment). It is best to let your Doctor determine the best choice for treatment.

Eczema affects people of all ages, even babies. Baby Eczema usually shows up in yellow splotches on the scalp; and reddish cheeks with what looks like pimples or blisters that may secret fluid. Older folks who may not secret as much oil as younger people, and often get dry skin which if not treated can crack, scale and become for rash like. It can be painful. Scratching an itchy area only aggravates the condition.

If you or a loved one are experiencing itches that dont go away, or red, pink or dark red areas that itch and dont go away, try not to scratch or rub too vigorously and see your Doctor for proper treatment. Failure to treat can cause infections that lead to even more severe complications.

A Primer On Eczema

March 24th, 2010

It's Off Again

Eczema is one of the very rampant skin diseases that affect people all over the world who are allergic to certain skin allergens.

Eczema occurs with some other atopic or skin diseases, whose exact infected locations can not be really traced. Some of these diseases include asthma, hay fever and conjunctivitis.

Eczema is often chronic and symptoms and manifestations can further and continually develop, continue to exist or disappear over some period of time. When you say chronic, it means the disease is treatable but not curable.

There are several forms of treatment or medications for eczema. Treatments like ointments and other forms are generally used to ease or relieve the itchiness caused by eczema. These are also used to reduce or diminish the affected area in the skin.

Eczema is often mistaken for psoriasis, which is another chronic another skin disease.

Eczema shows up or affects infants whose ages may range from one month to six months. In the united States alone, 60% of people diagnosed with eczema have had experienced their first onset of the skin disease when they were just a year old.

About 90% of eczema infected patients in third world countries got the skin disease when they were about 5 years old and below. There are cases of eczema onset during adolescent years but they are very uncommon and rare.

Symptoms of eczema

Be aware that manifestation or symptoms of this itchy and uncomfortable skin disease vary with age.

Overall, eczema is characterized by the presence of lesions which occur or can be found in different areas of the body, depending on age.

For example, an infant has eczema if he has lesions in the extensor surfaces, the face or in the trunk. For young children, they are found in ankles and wrists. In adults, these lesions may be found in the upper chest, in the neck, in the face and in the genitals or sex organs.

Eczema in infants and children show up through rashes occurring during warmer weather. These rashes will surely worsen with the climate change from warm to winter or colder climate.

Skin areas infected with eczema also are characterized by unusual and unaesthetic skin drying.

Treating eczema

Modern medicine believes that eczema may be worsened or complicated by stress or emotional and psychological anxieties.

The dryness in the infected area in the skin can be practically reduced by avoiding and preventing further contact with the allergen that may have caused or triggered eczema.

Also, moisturizers are available and easily accessible in local drug stores and retail chains. But remember, it is important to seek a doctors or a dermatologists prescription and consultation first. Self-treatment or self-prescription should be avoided for it may only worsen the skin disease.

Use of strong and harsh soaps must also be reduced to help prevent further drying of the skin. Most soaps today have chemicals that wash away and put out the natural oil produced by the skin. These natural oils contain substances that will help prevent skin drying.

Eczema Prevention

Of course, just like other skin diseases, the most basic and general prevention is hygiene.

Avoid skin contact with allergens like skin irritating chemicals, solvents and clothes. As much as possible, also avoid too much exposure to extreme climates like very high or very low temperatures.

It can be hard to explain but emotional stress can also be a factor causing eczema so as much as possible avoid it, as well as exposure to excessive or little tobacco smoke.
