Eczema commonly affects the hands, behind the knees and the elbows but it can also be found almost anywhere on the body.

Eczema is extremely itchy and typical symptoms are thickening, scaly patches of skin that become red and fissured.

Sometimes tiny blisters appear, called vesicles, that rapture, weep and eventually crust over.

There many different types of eczema these are:

*
Allergic (contact dermatitis)
*
Asteatotic (affects the legs, mainly in the elderly)
*
Atopic (affects the face, neck, elbows and knees)
*
Discoid (round lesions that affect the trunk and leg)
*
Lichen Simplex (caused by irritation of the skin)
*
Photoallergic (caused by sunlight on sensitive skin)
*
Pompholyx (affects the fingers, hands and soles of the feet)
*
Seborrhoeic (affects the face and scalp)
*
Statis (affects the lower leg)

Eczema has been linked to food allergies, so it would be wise to consult a nutritional therapist to discover which foods trigger the eczema.

Typical trigger foods for eczema are:

*
Dairy products
*
Wheat
*
Soya
*
Nuts
*
Eggs

Also other chemicals additives in foods such as:

*
Histamine
*
Salicylates
*
Benzoates

Aromatic compounds found in spices can trigger eczema symptoms.

In studies, when heavy coffee drinkers stopped drinking coffee, their eczema symptoms improved, so coffee may well be another food allergy for eczema sufferers.

Avoiding irritants such as hot water and soap can also be beneficial to eczema sufferers.

Following a vegan type diet with plenty of seeds, leafy green vegetables, whole grains would be beneficial to the eczema sufferer.

Natural Cure for Baby Eczema – There Is a Solution!

by lhuiz

In babies eczema usually appears first on their scalp and face (if around the mouth, it may well be a sign of food allergy / intolerance). It then spreads to the rest of the body affecting mainly the insides of the wrists, elbows and the backs of the knees (the skin in these areas is more sensitive and moist due to sweating).

The standard treatment for eczema involves an administration of antihistamines (to relieve the itching by suppressing the production of histamine) and an application of corticosteroid creams (to suppress the inflammation in the affected area).

Inflammation however serves an important purpose since it is the body’s primary response to infection, allergens or injury. It provides us with a warning sign that something is irritating the body and it calls for the immune system to deal with it. In eczema, inflammation is the body’s attempt to fight the allergens, pushing them out of the system so that they cannot cause any serious harm inside the body. This natural process acts as a self-preserving mechanism, without which the body would get poisoned.

It can be said that eczema flare ups are the result of overwhelmed elimination channels due to excessive amounts of toxins / allergens circulating in the bloodstream (unfortunately steroid medication greatly contributes to the toxic load thus pushing the disease picture deeper).

Prescribed medication (such as steroid creams and anti-histamines) often treats symptoms associated with inflammation such as redness, swelling and pain. However, it also suppresses the body’s natural defense mechanism thus confusing the immune system. The results are often short-lived which explains why stopping the treatment will result in eczema coming back.

When we use steroid creams we cover up the symptoms of inflammation, so the body is forced to find an alternative outlet. The suppressed inflammation may also sometimes move to other areas of the body (e.g. the bowel wall, which may result in a leaky gut or compromised absorption of nutrients) or it can move deeper and manifest as asthma or hay fever.

If the triggering factors remain unaddressed for a continuous period of time, the immune system will be subject to a lot of pressure. Eventually, it will get thrown out of balance at which point the eczema becomes chronic. In order to find a permanent freedom from eczema, we will need to delve deeper to get to the root cause of the condition.

What we will discover is that most cases share a common factor OVERACTIVE IMMUNE SYSTEM. Our immunity is a very sophisticated system that would do anything in order to defend the body against foreign invaders (incl. allergens). If the immune system is under chronic pressure, its function becomes impaired.

Your baby may well be genetically predisposed (since atopic conditions often run in families), but more often a weak immune system is the result of the following:

continuous exposure to allergens (which may lead to a leaky gut resulting in excessive amounts of toxins circulating in the blood)
inadequate nutrition
lack of sleep
environmental pollution / exposure to cigarette smoke
excessive use of antibiotics

When we manage to eliminate allergens, the body gains enough energy to initiate the healing process. The healing will occur on a priority basis starting with the more important organs (e.g. the intestines, the liver) moving onto the less important ones (such as the skin, nails, hair). That explains why the natural way of healing seems to take longer to notice any improvements since it literally heals the body inside out (as opposed to superficial skin healing).

This is only a small excerpt from my book Heal Your Baby’s Eczema which is based on thenotion that every baby is unique thus the cure will be different in each case. It also addresses factors that trigger eczema whilst showing parents what practical steps to take in order to eliminate their baby’s eczema for good. It is an in-depth guide for all parents who are willing to take matters into their hands and help their baby recover the natural way!

Eliminate Nummular Eczema Without the Need of Any Medication

Eczema is a skin disease that often runs in families. It is generally caused by stress and contact with certain chemicals or allergens. The word “nummular” is taken from the Latin word nummus, which means a small coin. Numular eczema is in the form of coin shaped patches.

Men are the people who contract nummular eczema the most, with the first outbreak occurring when they are in their mid fifties to mid sixties in age. The second most active age period of people suffering with nummular eczema are fifteen to twenty five years of age.

In this category women are the ones suffering from this type of eczema the most. This form of eczema hardly bothers with children, and for every 1000 people in the United States, only two will be affected by this illness.

In cases where nummular eczema is not well treated, then one may risk developing secondary infections of the skin. The goal of treatment for eczema is to relieve and prevent itching, whichcan lead to infection.

Trigger Factors For Nummular Eczema

Avoid triggers that can make your symptoms worse, such as wool, lanolin, and certain foods. Trigger factors for atopic eczema may include soap, harsh chemicals, heat and humidity, stress, certain foods (the most common offenders include eggs, milk, wheat, soy protein, and peanuts).

Nowadays, it is possible to obtain a food allergy, skin prick test, where certain foods are placed on the skin in a controlled, clinical environment. Nummunal Eczema may also be due to other causes such as: an allergic reaction to the excrement from house dust mites, allergy to foodstuffs including :

Dairy products,
coffee,
soybean products,
eggs,
nuts,
wheat and maize.

A good idea is to start with a very plain and limited diet and gradually introduce new foods. Once you have discovered foods that bring on eczema, you should eliminate them from your diet.

To be sure, you should start shifting gears such from fatty foods into healthy vegetables. Certain foods such as eggs, peanut butter, fish and eggs are known to trigger off numunal eczema in children. Vitamin C rich foods can help with skin regeneration, these include fruit and vegetables. Additives in food can, in some cases, severely irritate the skin, these include processed foods with coloring andpreservatives.

Alternative Treatment

The treatment of nummular eczema will target the need for immediate relief from the symptoms. Frequently your doctor will prescribe topical ointments or creams containing steroids, which are usually very effective.

Nummular Eczema patients can be treated, but medical treatments often dont help a pain which is more than skin deep. Alternative medicines have done more for the numular eczema suffer then doctors and drug companies. It is widely agreed upon that the bodys immune system is not strong enough, or has been altered to combat allergens Incorporating fatty 3 acids, and herbal tonics has cleared up many forms of eczema.

You will also want to use a rich moisturizing lotion or cream to keep your skin hydrated, and make sure the soap you use is mild and fragrance free. The application of a wet dressing can sometimes give you some relief.

It’s good to wear cotton clothing and avoid wool while you are sorting things out. Some people react to latex so be aware of your gloves. A mild soap like dove for sensitive skin works well as it contains no perfumes. For bathing use oatmeal baths rather than commercial bath soaks. Check your detergent to be sure it is dye free.
