5 Plants Used for Eczema Treatment

You may not know it yet, but a natural eczema treatment may be right in your garden or kitchen. The following has been used for many years now in relieving the symptoms of eczema.

Aloe Vera

We all know the many wonders the gel from aloe vera leaves does to the skin. It is no surprising that many skin care products have aloe vera gel as one of their ingredients. You can cut the leaf and apply the gel directly onto the skin with eczema. The gel works by moisturizing the affected area the skin will become softer and the healing of tissue will become faster. Many people who have tried the aloe vera plant noted reduced eczema symptoms and improved skin quality.

Chamomile

There are two distinctive popular chamomile plants: German and Roman. They both look like small daisies and, by tradition, used as herbal remedy for almost the same problems. Chamomile has been found to have anti-inflammatory and anti-itching properties, therefore it is one of the many known natural treatment for eczema. The German variant is commonly used as a remedy for this skin condition. You can use chamomile tea as a compress on eczematous skin. Also, chamomile essential oils and topical creams may be used to massage the area with, and achieve similar healing effects.

Rosemary

Rosemary has been used for many centuries now because of its cleansing and anti-oxidant properties. You can purchase rosemary essential oils, bath soap and topical creams at aromatherapy and natural bath and body products stores. It is good at reducing skin inflammation and helps improve blood circulation. The camphoraceous smell also helps relive stress and invigorate you. Heres how to use this wonderful herb: as an essential oil, you can add a few drops onto your bathwater and soak yourself in it for minutes; as a soap and topical cream, massage onto the eczematous skin.

Walnut Leaves

The walnut tree leaves have been used for thousands of years now because of their medicinal properties, especially for treating various skin disorders. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and astringent properties make them an effective remedy for scabies, skin ulcers, eczema and many others. You can utilize infusions and tinctures made from the leaves of a walnut tree to protect the eczematous skin from infection. A decoction may also be prepared as a compress on the affected area. To do this, cut 2-3 grams of dried walnut leaves into pieces. Place them in 100 mg cold water. Bring it to a boil then let simmer for 15 minutes. When cooled, apply on skin.

Turmeric

Turmeric belongs to the ginger family and is used worldwide for cooking as well as medicinal purposes. Yes, it is that yellow substance that adds color and flavor to curry. It has been found that curcumin, an active substance found in turmeric, has a wide variety of therapeutic actions, most especially its anti-inflammatory effects.

This works because of the substances ability to lower the bodys production of histamine, and possibly stimulate the production of cortisone a steroid hormone. You can purchase turmeric in pill form at natural food stores and take 500 mg of it daily. You may also apply it topically when bought as oil, cream or ointment. Mixing turmeric powder with water is also great for washing eczematous skin with.

A natural eczema treatment is definitely less expensive than conventional medications prescribed by doctors these days. They have been around for many years now and are used as a treatment for different conditions.

AmLactin XL Lotion, 5.6 Ounces Reviews

Review by Lydia Jillian: 5 Eczema Treatment

31aEDos8c7L. SL75 Eczema TreatmentThis is miracle cream. It has healed the cracked hands and feet of three family members. I have searched for anything to help my severely cracked heels and extremely dry hands since I was a child. This did wonders within two days of using it. My husband had the same results on his knuckles. They had cracked open from dry weather. There was a huge improvement after only three aplications.

Do not be scared off by the price. If you have seriously dry skin, it is worth every penny. Only a small amount of cream is needed for each application. This tube is going to last a long time.

The other AmLactin products are very good too. But, I have never had results like this from any product before.

Review by JKZV: 4 Eczema Treatment

31aEDos8c7L. SL75 Eczema TreatmentFirst, this is a thick, moisturizing cream and I’m sure it will helps a lot of people who have not tried the Amlactin line, or who first tried the Amlactin Lotion.

I became a believer in the Amlactin product line when I tried the Amlactin 12% Body Cream in the 4.9oz tube to treat my 20-year old case of kp (keratosis pilaris – rough, raised bumps on outer arms and thighs). After only 3 days of twice-daily application, my kp was 90% improved. After 2 weeks, it was completely *gone*. In addition, my seriously cracked heels and fingers were completely healed, too.

I thought that if the regular Amlactin was this good, the XL had to be even better, right? It wasn’t for me, at least. I had gotten to a once-a-day maintenance routine with the regular cream but when I switched to the XL, I had to go back to twice-a-day application and my heels started showing signs of cracking again. Now I’m finishing off the XL tube as a hand cream only and I switched back to the regular Amlactin cream for my arms and feet. Again, I was able to go back to a once-a-day regimen.

I couldn’t find the percentage of ammonium lactate (the main ingredient) on the XL tube, but the regular cream tube is clearly marked with the 12% potency. It makes me wonder if the ammonium lactate percentage is smaller on the XL because it is combined with other active ingredients – and perhaps my skin doesn’t need those other ingredients as much as it needs the ammonum lactate.

I agree that the XL might work better than the Amlactin *lotion* (in the bottle) since the lotion seems to evaporate more quickly due to its thinner consistency. I do use the regular lotion on my face and any large, less-dry areas that I want to moisturize and it works great that way. It’s not too oily for my combination facial skin and more economical to use on large areas since it spreads more easily and comes in a larger bottle.

For me, the Amlactin Moistuizing Body Cream in the 4.9oz tube is the most effective on my kp and cracked heels/fingertips and the Amlactin XL was just not as good. Oh, and these lotions do smell of ammonia, which is why some reviews say they smell like urine. I find that the smell is not as strong and fades quickly if my skin is dry, rather than wet, when I apply it. If you put on lotion after bathing/showering, you might want to towel off well and wait a few minutes before applying it to minimize the ammonia smell. I hope this helps anyone who is having a problem with the scent.

I’ve tried Retin-A, Lac-Hydrin 5, and a slew of other useless products over the years without near the results I get from the Amlactin line, and at a much smaller price tag. Thank you Amlactin!! Now can you get the retailers to move it out from behind the pharmacy counter, please?

Dermarest Eczema Medicated Lotion 4 fl oz (118 ml) Reviews

Review by Professorlee: 5 Eczema Treatment

41yCbTOzLUL. SL75 Eczema TreatmentI have had eczema my entire life – my hands would get so red and dry in the winter that they would bleed! – and I found nothing over the counter that would work. Sure the prescriptions helped – but they would give me a tiny tube that cost too much and lasted a week. Dermarest lotion (emphasis on “lotion” – I found the cream version they offer does not work as well) is absolutely wonderful. I have told many family and friends about this product and everyone loves it. It even works on the children in the family (as our exzema is hereditary). Bottom line – it works, it’s inexpensive and the size of the bottle will last you all winter!

41yCbTOzLUL. SL75 Eczema TreatmentIt did nothing for the eczema. This isn’t even a good lotion. The medication ingredient is Hydrocortisone which is really just an anti-inflammatory.

31uiEVAqoHL. SL75 Eczema TreatmentDr Croc’s Repcillin Natural Skin Treatment 50g Tub

I have been using the repcillin for a few months for my childrens eczema and any rashes they might get. It has worked very well for my children. I thought I would also throw my little comment towards what it did for my burn.

Being a chef, I have seen my fair share of burns in the kitchen, after always using repcillin on my children I used the repcillin on a burn that I had got from boiling water. It was amazing, the burn ended up not leaving a scar (and i scar easily). So I thought I would tell the other moms out there not only to use the Repcillin for your babies, use it yourself,

It was great to find out that there is something out there that is 100% natural with no side effects. I have had problems with my sons eczema, whenever the doctor gives my son a cream, it always helps and then the eczema returns worse than before.

I ordered the repcillin after reading about it on [...], the product came in about 3 days. It has been amazing, as soon as I applied the cream to my sons eczema, I noticed the redness going away, it helped heal his skin and now I use the spray every day after his bath to keep the eczema at bay.

I would like to thank Amazon for offering this product in the States.

Review by Connie L. Goehler: 5 Eczema Treatment

41ntrOdvDlL. SL75 Eczema TreatmentThis is my second order for this amazing stuff! I use it on my lips, nails and cuticles, hands, dry areas on my face, elbows, feet, and sometimes as a hair product. Do Not Hesitate To Purchase! When I got my first container, I thought it would be greasy because it looks more like an ointment than a cream. But, it matches the natural lipids in the skin so well, it literally soaks right in and leaves such smooth, soft, and healed skin behind. No scent so can be used by both men and women.

Review by tracy a.: 5 Eczema Treatment

41ntrOdvDlL. SL75 Eczema TreatmentI have been using Egyptian magic for the last 4-5? years as my night cream. I am 42 years old and have virtually no wrinkles. I always moisten my face first with a spritz of witch hazel mixed with rose water (I mix together in a mister)then emulsify the egyptian magic in the palm of my hand. It spreads easier all over face and neck. I also like to put it in my hair (small amount) after washing while still wet, then it combs out easily and makes my curls softer and shinier. It works great on dry hair (tiny amount rubbed in palms of hands) as defrizzer and shine booster. I also enjoy it as a hand/cuticle cream and lip balm. you can also use it as a female moisturizer or lubricant. I love that it has no artificial ingredients or preservatives. Remember, honey is naturally antibacterial. I am sold for life! It is expensive at whole foods, but I sometimes see a deal on amazon. just check the shipping charge first…sometimes you may notice a much smaller price only to realize the shipping charge makes it as much as the other “expensive” looking prices. I love this stuff and the jar does last quite a long time. Oh, by the way, I did try to make this at home once and it turned into a blob of sticky mess. I must have put too much bees wax when melting it down. The chemistry must be exact to get the consistancy of the original product.

TriDerma Eczema Fast Healing Cream Reviews

Review by B. Dawson: 5 Eczema Treatment

41ShgHCeZ5L. SL75 Eczema Treatment**I’m posting this review on my husband’s account, not my own (I actually don’t have one)

I never leave reviews, but this product is working so well that I wanted to let others know how it has helped my son.

He is now a little over 4.5 months old and has had eczema spreading across his forehead and down to his cheeks since he was two months. The pediatrician originally gave us an anti-fungal cream to manage the rash, but there was no effect. At his 4 month well-check, we received a Rx for Alclometasone Dipropianate Cream, USP 0.05%. It worked amazingly well, and his skin was soft and smooth in 4 days. But, the label says that it’s not recommended for children under 1 and the pediatrician was very clear that we not exceed 7 days of use and that we cease use earlier once his skin cleared. His skin remained clear for about a day and a half, but then a small patch of rash appeared on his forehead.

We began using Cetaphil lotioin to moisturize throughout the day and California Baby Calendula Cream, in an attempt to control the inflammation without the use of steroids (several reviews and message board posts mentioned its effectiveness). The combination seemed to slow the spread of the rash, initially, but his face and cheeks were soon covered again (worse than before we used the Rx cream).

We discontinued use of the Calendula cream, thinking it might be too strong and causing irritation. We continued with the Cetaphil, which seemed to provide temporary moisture and relief from the itching, but did nothing to control the rash and required numerous applications throughout the day.

A co-worker informed me that she has been using TriDerma to control her son’s eczema since he was an infant (he’s now 2), and suggested that I give it a try. We have been using TriDerma for 4 days, now. There was little noticeable difference in the first 2 days, but we’ve seen great improvement since then. It doesn’t appear to be working as quickly at the Rx cream, but it is definitely working and appears to be following the same stages of healing as with the Rx cream.

I am so thankful! The rash was beginning to spread to his nose and eyelids, but is now receding, and we are hopeful that his skin will soon clear completely.

Review by Mrs. Alba: 4 Eczema Treatment

41ShgHCeZ5L. SL75 Eczema TreatmentI bought this for my 2 year old daughter who has patches of eczema all over her body. This past winter was especially dry and her skin worsened. She had an especially stubborn patch of eczema in the bend of her elbow that would not heal. We had a daily regime of triple antibiotics and cortisone. We only bathed her a couple times a week and used cetaphil soap to wash her along with aveeno oatmeal in her bathing water-which after we applied aquaphor all over her. Desperate- as the patch in her elbow was getting worse – I saw an ad for this and decided to try it. After 5 days of applying 2 times daily it healed up the patch completely. No weeping or scaling anymore! My only complaint is that it doesn’t come in a bigger tube. But well worth the price as the results were excellent.

Eczema – Nurse’s Guide To Facts, Tips and Natural Eczema Treatment With Coconut Oil

February 12th, 2010

Guttate Psoriasis After

Eczema or dermatitis, affects more than 15 million Americans and it’s currently estimated that between 15-25% of children are affected by eczema. Eczema is a dermatological term for extra dry or inflamed skin. It’s also known as: atopic eczema, atopic dermatitis and infantile eczema. Eczema is a chronic skin disorder characterized by itching rashes, which may be red, scaly, dry, or leathery.

Eczema is usually a persistent, itchy skin condition consisting of skin dryness and inflammation (manifested by redness of the skin, crusting and thickening of the skin). Eczema is an inflammation of the skin and may be associated with an allergic reaction, although the cause is often unknown. Eczema is a commonly inherited condition; it often affects people with a family history of allergies, such as allergic rhinitis and asthma.

Research into the cause of eczema is still in the beginning stages. Many people do not realize that eczema is not contagious and a child might be unnecessarily sent home from school. Atopic eczema is a chronic, recurring condition with “flares” (which are active or new patches of eczema) and remissions (when eczema is not as active).

An attack of eczema is usually described as acute or chronic, but the only distinction lies in the greater or less intensity of the inflammation at the time of description. It doesn’t have anything to do with the length of time that the disease has lasted. A severe attack of eczema is usually accompanied by some slight constitutional disturbance, but the general health seldom suffers appreciably, unless, as occasionally, the itching is so bad as to make sleep impossible. However, eczema is actually dermatitis that is in advanced, more serious stages.

Childhood eczema is sometimes found behind the knee or in the bend of an elbow and will often completely clear up by the time the child reaches puberty. Irritant Contact Eczema is caused by contact with a substance that could be encountered daily, such as soaps, certain chemicals, and detergents. Varicose Eczema is a condition found in the lower leg. In adults, eczema is commonly located on the inner elbow or behind the knee. Other more serious types of eczema include nummular, discoid and dyshidrotic.

The eczema creams on the market today can be used for both skin hydration and to reduce inflammation and most eczema creams will give relief from irritation and discomfort almost immediately. They are usually manufactured according to the highest pharmaceutical standards.

However I prefer natural treatments for eczema and use coconut oil for healing eczema or dermatitis. Unprocessed organic virgin coconut oil soothes immediately and goes to work on healing eczema, dermatitis or just about any skin condition.

Patients with eczema have skin that is very sensitive to many substances such as soap, wool, detergents, make-up, cosmetics, mascara, lipstick, nail polish, shampoos, etc. Once skin is exposed to a trigger, it releases chemicals to the surface of the skin causing the patient to itch.

To achieve control of your ski condition it does take time and energy to follow a successful skin care routine. Skin care routines can be at times time-consuming and may seem monotonous but are necessary and well worth the effort.

We know that when someone is experiencing stress they are more likely to feel itchy and then start scratching their skin. A school-age child who has poor skin control usually feels isolated from his/her peers and can develop low self-esteem. For an attack of eczema, two conditions are necessary: a predisposition or special irritability of the skin, and a directly exciting cause. Another influence that has received increasing attention from skin specialists is that of any shock to the nervous system or prolonged mental stress or strain.

While we don’t understand all the causes of eczema, there is evidence that the following play a role in causing eczema: diet, genetics, the immune system, and abnormalities in the barrier (protective) function of the skin. We do know however that in eczema-prone people, certain things may cause a ‘flare’ or ‘flare-up’ or may ‘trigger’ an episode of eczema. There are treatments and remedies that do work for eczema depending on what has caused it. But some types of eczema have no known cause. Resorting to alternative, natural eczema treatment methods to get the best cure or results is sometimes necessary to cure eczema problems. Eczema is usually a very persistent, itchy skin condition consisting of skin dryness and inflammation manifested by redness of the skin, crusting and thickening of the skin. Eczema is an inflammation of the skin and may be associated with an allergic reaction, although the cause is not always known.

Another possibility for eczema that has received increasing attention from skin specialists, dermatologists and other skin doctors is that of any shock to the nervous system or prolonged mental stress or strain. Coconut oil works better than eczema creams, which are usually eczema products laden with chemicals, whether for babies, teens or adults. Virgin coconut oil is very inexpensive therefore, a good, cheap home remedy.

In adults, eczema is commonly found on the inner elbow or behind the knee. If you also have acne, coconut oil will treat acne too and is better than most chemical acne products. Once skin is exposed to a trigger, it releases chemicals to the surface of the skin, which causes a patient to itch.

To get control of your skin condition it does take time and energy to follow a successful skin care routine. Serious types of eczema include nummular, discoid and dyshidrotic. We know that when someone is experiencing stress they are more likely to feel itchy and then start scratching the skin.

Unprocessed organic virgin coconut oil soothes the area immediately and goes to work on healing eczema, dermatitis or just about any skin condition. The eczema creams on the market today can be used for both skin hydration and to reduce inflammation but coconut oil is a cheap reliable home remedy. A severe attack of eczema is usually accompanied by a slight constitutional disturbance, but general health seldom suffers appreciably, unless, as occasionally, the itching is so bad that it makes sleep impossible.

Contact dermatitis offenders include jewelry, perfumes, chemicals in any cosmetics, shellac in mascara, lipstick, nickel, lotions, soaps, fabric softener sheets, pesticides from contact around the mouth, latex gloves, tomatoes, etc.

Eczema is actually dermatitis that is in advanced, more serious stages. Also you can expose the affected area to direct sunlight for 20 minutes or so each day and get your daily dose of vitamin D that way too.

Organic virgin coconut oil cures many other skin conditions and skin disorders too, besides making the skin soft and smooth. Patients with eczema have skin that is very sensitive to many substances such as soap, wool, detergents, make-up, cosmetics, mascara, lipstick, nail polish, shampoos, etc. A school-age child who has poor skin control usually feels very isolated from his or her peers and can develop low self-esteem.

Eventually the immune system and body do the healing if you were to do nothing, but coconut oil can speed up the process. We do know now however, that in people prone to eczema, certain things may cause a ‘flare’ or ‘flare-up’ or may ‘trigger’ an episode. Your eczema and its symptoms, with the proper eczema treatment, providing you’ve removed the cause, should go away.

Eczema is a commonly used medical term for extra dry or inflamed skin. When treating eczema one should always consider natural treatment first if you want to take the best care of your skin. Applying alternative, natural eczema treatment methods to get the best cure or results is sometimes essential to cure eczema problems. Although it’s not common knowledge, coconut oil, a natural treatment method, has been used for eczema for many years.

Types of eczema include atopic, dyshidrotic and nummular eczema. Once the skin is exposed to a trigger, it releases chemicals that go directly to the surface of the skin, which then causes a patient to itch. I use coconut oil for everything including as a make-up remover and under my foundation. My skin is always soft, silky, smooth, and free of eczema, rashes, bumps, blemishes, blisters, etc.

The best treatment I’ve found to heal eczema is organic virgin coconut oil. Always get permission from your doctor before you apply any alternative treatments. To apply virgin coconut oil, massage it deep into the affected area. Depending on how severe the eczema is, it can be applied three or four times a day or more and at bedtime too. The more serious types of eczema include nummular, discoid, dyshidrotic and Varicose Eczema, which is a condition that is found in the lower leg. Make sure to consult with your doctor first on these conditions.

If you also have acne, coconut oil will treat most types of acne too and is better than most chemical acne products. Patients with eczema usually have skin that is very sensitive to certain substances including soap, wool, detergents, make-up, cosmetics, mascara, lipstick, nail polish, shampoos, etc. For an attack of eczema to exist, two conditions have to be present – a predisposition or special irritability of the skin, and a directly exciting cause. The type of eczema you have depends on the cause and where it occurs on your body.

Virgin coconut oil is very inexpensive and is therefore, a good, cheap home remedy. Many people think that eczema is contagious and on occasion a child might be unnecessarily sent home from school. Virgin coconut oil works better than commercial eczema creams, which are usually eczema products that are laden with chemicals, whether made for babies, teens or adults.

A child of school-age who has poor skin control can feel very isolated from his or her peers and can develop low self-esteem. For the local causes of eczema such as contact dermatitis, you want to avoid having your skin come in contact with the offending item, of course. If the eczema is on your hands, coconut oil will have to be applied to them more often.

Eczema and its symptoms, provided the cause has been removed, should improve and eventually go away. There are natural treatments and remedies that do work for eczema depending on the cause; but some types of eczema have no known cause. Keep coconut oil handy to treat other minor skin irritations and problems too.

Sometimes one has to resort to alternative, natural eczema treatment methods to get the best cure or results for their eczema problem. And often it’s a better choice, due to less exposure to drugs and chemical-laden products.

It should always be the first treatment to consider when you want to take the best care of your skin.

First of all, eczema and dermatitis are often referring to the same thing in the medical world. They cover a variety of inflammations of the most outer portion of the skin. There are three different, broad types of eczema.

The type of eczema depends on the cause and where it occurs on the body. The types are basically, allergies, rashes, and nutritional deficiencies. The eczemas include atopic, dyshidrotic and nummular eczema.

Naturally you’ll want to eliminate any internal cause of eczema as in non-contact allergies, rashes, and nutritional deficiencies.

For local causes of eczema such as contact dermatitis, you want to avoid having your skin come into contact with the offending item.

It could be jewelry, perfumes, chemicals in any cosmetics, shellac in mascara, lipstick, nickel, lotions, soaps, fabric softener sheets, pesticides from contact around the mouth, latex gloves, etc.

I’m assuming here that you already have a diagnosis of eczema.

The best thing I’ve found to heal eczema is extra virgin coconut oil. It works better than eczema creams, which are usually chemical-laden products, whether for babies, teens or adults.

Make sure you’re working on eliminating the cause of your eczema, whether internal or external, which we won’t go into here.

Extra virgin coconut oil has helped many I know to help heal the skin. Ultimately, of course, the immune system and body do the healing if you were to do nothing, but coconut oil can speed up the process.

If you also have acne it’ll treat acne too and is better than most chemical acne products.

You want to make sure you get the extra virgin type that is not refined, bleached or deodorized. You can order it online.

Whole food-type markets are carrying more coconut oil, in pint and quart jars and especially the extra virgin coconut oil. Get the organic kind if you can.

Coconut oil cures many other skin conditions and skin disorders too, besides making the skin soft and smooth. I use it for everything including as a make-up remover and under my foundation. My skin is always soft, silky, smooth, and free of rashes, bumps, blemishes, blisters, etc.

It stops itching and flaking too.

Coconut oil is very inexpensive therefore, a good, cheap home remedy. Keep it around to treat any other skin problem. It’s actually healthy to eat too. It’s a plant saturated fat, not an animal saturated fat.

I add two big tablespoons to my smoothies, to help my skin from the inside out too, and have been doing so for many years.

Although we refer to it as coconut oil, it isn’t actually oil until the temperature climbs above 77 degrees. It can be applied when it is in the oil-state or non-oil state.

To apply the extra virgin coconut oil, massage it deep into the affected area. You can heat it if you like but you don’t have to. Depending on how severe the eczema is, apply it three or four times a day or more and especially at bedtime.

It’s important to keep the area moist with the oil. You may have to apply a loose bandage to your skin, soaked with the oil. If the eczema is on your hands, you’ll have to apply it even more often.

Also you can expose the area to direct sunlight for 20 minutes or so each day. You’ll get your daily dose of vitamin D that way too.

Many have used coconut oil as a treatment to cure or heal their eczema or their baby’s eczema.

It just takes motivation, a willingness to try it, and diligent application of coconut oil several times each day and at bedtime.

And your eczema and its symptoms, providing you’ve removed the cause, should go away. Continue using coconut oil and good clear skin will be your reward.

If we view our liver as the main filter for removing toxins and metabolic by-products from our body; we can see that by improving liver function, the herbalist helps the body to remove unwanted waste as a primary treatment before resorting to stronger herbs.

Blood purifiers are also referred to as restoratives where they assist the body to heal itself and address the underlying cause of many conditions, including eczema, dermatitis and acne. Secondly, by improving the quality of our digestion in combination with a low allergy diet, the absorption of allergens from the diet is decreased and the quality of what we absorb from our food is improved.

Herbal eczema treatments work best when combined with a high fibre, low allergy diet. If you have eczema, chances are that your digestion and liver function are not working at their optimum. Drink a minimum of eight glasses of filtered water a day and take a supplement containing zinc, Vitamin C and E in a formula designed for eczema.
